Here you will find lists of spellings for each term of Year 3.

In Term 1, we are revisiting Year 2 spelling rules. From Term 2 onwards, we look at new spellings from the National Curriculum for Years 3 and 4. Every spelling rule and the complete ‘word list’ (which we call key words) from the curriculum is covered once in Year 3 and covered again in Year 4. We have created this model because repetition and overlearning are great strategies for learning spellings.

Effective ways to help your child practise include the classic ‘look, cover, write, check’, multi-sensory games such as ‘dicey spellings’ or inventing mnemonics for those spellings that are a little more challenging. As with many things, little and often is the best. Spelling tests will take place on Fridays.
