This term, Year 6 have been studying architecture in D.T and World War 2 in History. We have been fortunate enough to combine our knowledge with a fantastic workshop on building Andersen Shelters, a structure used to protect communities from bombing during World War 2. The children learnt about how different shapes provide varying levels of strength for buildings. They then used this knowledge to independently create shelters that would be suitable for a whole family! At the end of the workshop, the children combined their structures to create a communal shelter, which were in frequent use during The Blitz.
