Recently, nine children represented the school at the prestigious English Schools’ Swimming Association Primary Team Championships National Finals. The children had already performed superbly in the South West Heats to qualify for the national finals that included the top 27 schools from across England. Since the qualification event, our swimmers had been working hard in their own swim sessions and dedicated school relay practice sessions. It was great to see everyone swim so brilliantly at the final and the improvements were huge. We bettered our seeding in all four events and held our own against some strong competition from across private and state schools. It was a wonderful day out and we had plenty of fun too.

The wider swim squad have had lots of swimming opportunities this year. 45 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 have taken part in various galas throughout the year. Our A team made the Bristol Primary Swim League A Final and we were one of only two schools with a B team—they did so well competing against other schools’ first teams.

Year 3 try out sessions for next year are well underway and we look forward to welcoming new swimmers to the school team next year. Sadly, we say goodbye to our Year 6 swimmers – well done on representing so well in both your swimming and being such good ambassadors for Bishop Road.
