Yesterday our school was visited by Ross Montgomery, children’s author of books such as The Building Boy and Max and the Millions.
Ross started the day by talking to Years 1 and 2 about his life as an author, his work with illustrator David Litchfield and then read his story Space Tortoise. The children had lots of chances to interact with the story-telling and had great fun predicting what was going to happen to the lonely tortoise who wanted to travel to space. Ross spent the rest of the day with Year 2, hosting workshops where the children had a go at creating their own inventions for Tortoise to use and had a chance to ask lots of questions about where to get ideas for their own stories and what being an author is like. The day ended with a book sale thanks to local bookshop Max Minerva’s.
A fantastic day was had by all and many of the children are now inspired to write their own stories!
