An open letter from Mrs Powe, our Head Teacher

 Bishop Road School Bell Tower

I hope this website will open a door to the inside of our school, which may seem small from the streets outside, but which is in fact not only very large, but also bursting with growth and activity within. I am privileged to be the Head Teacher of this unique school with its history of achievement and its obvious potential. My vision is to work with the dedicated staff to celebrate its history and strengths, whilst striving for further excellence through the provision of the very best opportunities for our children.

Bishop Road is a community school and its ethos and core purpose is directed by this fact. It is not a school which fights change, or which is concerned with social conformity, rather it is prepared to challenge aspects of the contemporary culture when necessary. We aim to help instil in children a balance of purpose, empathy, compassion and self-advancement. At Bishop Road we celebrate diversity, yet at all times look for inclusion and unity, and our school strives to maintain these ideals throughout its educational provision for children.

Respect for others, the self-discipline necessary for independent and conscientious work patterns, and collaboration, are all emphasised. The link between home and school is pivotal, and we believe that by working together we can encourage every child to be the best that they can be, in order to face both their own and all our futures.

Teaching, along with parenting, is at its most effective where it retains its vocational sense, and I believe that enabling children to learn and mature is indeed a hugely significant task. As you browse this site, I trust you will share an understanding of this complex role and feel drawn to support this special activity that we rather simply call a child's education.
